Summer Fete- 29th June 2018

Post date: Sep 18, 2018 9:37:05 PM

Oaklands' summer Fete took place on 29 June 2018, it was an extremely hot day as we were in the midst of the heatwave and of course the World Cup!

The sound of the summer was set with our first parent DJ Duo Kelly Koufoupoulo & her husband Mick DJ Disciple. The tunes were pumping and the stalls were ready to go, our parent volunteers had been setting up since Friday evening.

Once the gates opened a flurry of people arrived, we tried a new idea this year of charging just adults 50p entrance which is in line with most other school fetes.

A popular place seemed to be by the inflatables, the kids loved the assault course and the sumo suits and the adults could get a much needed drink from the Pimms and Beer Bar (ran by our Oaklands Dads!)

We had many stalls, ranging from Lucky Lollies, Splat the Rat, Hook a duck, Coloured Hampers to name a few all ran by our parent helpers with many stalls using items donated by the parents. A new stall this year was the Stocks, thanks to Dick Shaw one of our parents as they were built & donated by him, most people enjoyed having a sponge thrown at your face given the extreme weather conditions!.

We had some amazing arena acts too, maypole, gymnastics, dancing and football, all performed by children at the school. They all did so well especially on such a hot day.

The hula hoop competition was another new idea and everyone seemed to enjoy this, including the parents! we had 2 winning children from the Juniors who had a hoop off at the end but still were both unbeaten!

Thank you to the external stall holders too, we had Usborne books, Cataccessories, The Girl Guides, and of course The Scouts who provided everyone with a delicious BBQ.

A huge thank you to everyone involved by volunteering time, donating prizes or coming along to support our school, thank you to the local companies donated a raffle prize too & were listed in our programme.

We hope you all had an enjoyable day.

We raised a total of £4.3k in total which is a massive amount of money to go towards resourcing some of our Teaching Assistants & much needed Equipment for the school, including iPads in the Juniors.

If you have any feedback or ideas for next years big summer event please let the PTA know; we are welcome to new ideas and new PTA members all the time.
