Summer Fete- 29th June 2018

posted 18 Sep 2018, 14:37 by Tracey Richards   [ updated 18 Sep 2018, 15:38 ]

Oaklands' summer Fete took place on 29 June 2018, it was an extremely hot day as we were in the midst of the heatwave and of course the World Cup!
The sound of the summer was set with our first parent DJ Duo Kelly Koufoupoulo & her husband Mick DJ Disciple. The tunes were pumping and the stalls were ready to go, our parent volunteers had been setting up since Friday evening.

Once the gates opened a flurry of people arrived, we tried a new idea this year of charging just adults 50p entrance which is in line with most other school fetes.

A popular place seemed to be by the inflatables, the kids loved the assault course and the sumo suits and the adults could get a much needed drink from the Pimms and Beer Bar (ran by our Oaklands Dads!)

We had many stalls, ranging from Lucky Lollies, Splat the Rat, Hook a duck, Coloured Hampers to name a few all ran by our parent helpers with many stalls using items donated by the parents. A new stall this year was the Stocks,  thanks to Dick Shaw one of our parents as they were built & donated by him, most people enjoyed having a sponge thrown at your face given the extreme weather conditions!.
We had some amazing arena acts too, maypole, gymnastics, dancing and football, all performed by children at the school. They all did so well especially on such a hot day.
The hula hoop competition was another new idea and everyone seemed to enjoy this, including the parents! we had 2 winning children from the Juniors who had a hoop off at the end but still were both unbeaten!

Thank you to the external stall holders too, we had Usborne books, Cataccessories, The Girl Guides, and of course The Scouts who provided everyone with a delicious BBQ.

A huge thank you to everyone involved by volunteering time, donating prizes or coming along to support our school, thank you to the local companies donated a raffle prize too & were listed in our programme.
We hope you all had an enjoyable day.

We raised a total of £4.3k in total which is a massive amount of money to go towards resourcing some of our Teaching Assistants & much needed Equipment for the school, including iPads in the Juniors.

If you have any feedback or ideas for next years big summer event please let the PTA know; we are welcome to new ideas and new PTA members all the time.

Sports Day- 19th June 2018

posted 20 Jun 2018, 15:47 by Tracey Richards

Sports day had a different format this year with the Juniors events taking place in the morning and the Infants in the afternoon. It seemed to work really well and there was a wonderful atmosphere all day!
Once again the sun shone and the children all ran their little socks off! As well as being a great family day, it also seemed an ideal opportunity to get out our newly set up uniform rails and raise some extra pennies selling uniform, cakes, drinks and our Ice pops. In fact, we made a staggering profit of £527.48, which will go extremely far towards our cause.
One of the wonderful parts of the day was Alex (or chair) being able to confirm that we have been able to give both heads £5,000 each to spend on our schools! Juniors have spent their money on new sports bibs and will be using the rest to pay for IPads following the successful trial a few months ago. The infants will be using their money for various resources and equipment which I am sure the children will make great use of! In addition, the PTA also give each school £1,200 a term to cover the TA's which are essential to our childrens' learning.

It just goes to show that every 50p for an Ice-pop or £1 for a cup of tea that you give really does add up and make such a difference, so thank you all  your support. And as always, thank you for all donations of cake and uniform and all our helpers on the day.

Royal Wedding Afternoon Tea- 18th May

posted 20 Jun 2018, 15:01 by Tracey Richards   [ updated 20 Jun 2018, 15:21 ]

The PTA and the Infant & Junior schools worked together to put on a party fit for a king in order to celebrate the upcoming wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle!
The sun shined as the children had snacks and sweet treats with their families and wore their beautiful home-made crowns and tiaras.
Thank you to all those who donated food, and for all the helpers that set up, sold ice pops and drinks and tidied up after the event.
It was a wonderful, memorable day!

Easter Egg Bingo- 24th March 2018

posted 26 Mar 2018, 14:12 by Tracey Richards   [ updated 30 Apr 2018, 04:38 ]

Such a lot of fun was had at this years' Easter Egg Bingo! We had a huge table full of delicious eggs for the children to win, many going home with 2, 3 or even 4 eggs! It was great to see the parents getting into the competitive spirit too, hands held high for their share of mini eggs!
Just in case there wasn't enough sugar (!)the PTA made the decision to open the tuck shop this year, which went down really well.
As always, loads of 'Thank yous'- firstly to all of our helpers (grown ups and children!) that helped us in various ways; anyone doing the fast paced job of handing out the mini eggs to our winners, those helping on the tuck stall, Oli Griffin for being a FANTASTIC Bingo caller and our First Aid volunteers, plus of course anyone that helped clear up afterwards. It really is appreciated and we are so grateful to you all for sparing your precious weekends to help us.
We received an overwhelmingly generous amount of eggs from parents, so again thank you. And also a massive thank you to our very supportive Local Supermarkets for their donations of eggs and vouchers;
Co-op Crowthorne
Waitrose Yateley and Sandhurst
Tesco Express Crowthorne
Tesco Meadows
And very generous donations from Mars.

We hope the children all had as good time as we did organising our first Easter Eggs Bingo! We made a £739.45 profit, brilliant!

Emma & Lucy hard at work, sorting out thousands of eggs!!

Thanks to everyone who helped, attended or otherwise supported our Christmas Fayre.  It was a great success, with many getting the chance to meet Santa in his amazing grotto (photos below) and update him of their gift requirements for this year.  Lots of games were played, items purchased, food and drink consumed, prizes won & much festive entertainment enjoyed.

Thanks also to our sponsor, Michael Hardy Estate Agents, to our advertisers in the programme, and to those that contributed raffle prizes and other donations to the event.

We recorded a healthy profit of £3,793.79, taking our total festive earnings to an impressive £4,458.

Sincere thanks to our friends at Wokingham West Round Table, who again brought the magic of Christmas to the streets around Oaklands Schools.  The festive tunes blasted down the ears of local residents brought many out to meet Santa and donate to Oaklands PTA - the looks of wonder and joy on their little faces made it all worthwhile ... and I think some of the kids enjoyed it too.  Boom!  Boom!

Thanks to everyone who turned out to collect donations.  Especially big thanks to the Cluzels for organising the evening and to John Nance for sitting on his backside and being unceasingly cheerful.  We collected £247 for the PTA - a great result!

Crowthorne Late Night Shopping - Friday 1st December 2017

We had great fun joining the Crowthorne traders on the High Street with our eclectic offer of popcorn, Xmas Puds, light-up tat, putty, Lucky Lollies & prosecco.  Something for everyone there & business was brisk, netting us a fantastic profit of £417.

Well done & thanks to everyone who helped out & contributed to an excellent village event.  Special thanks to Newman's, who provided power for our popcorn machine, and to the Crowthorne Trader's Association for organising a very worthwhile evening & a great kick-off to the festive period.
